How to Join eXp Realty: A Step-by-Step Guide for Agents
Thinking about joining eXp Realty? The actual process is fairly straightforward, but there are a few decisions you should understand before submitting your application, especially choosing your sponsor and making sure your license transfer is handled correctly.
What Does the eXp Realty Application Process Actually Look Like?
When agents first start researching how to join eXp Realty, the process can sound more complicated than it really is. There are application steps, brokerage approvals, license-transfer requirements, onboarding, and the sponsor selection.
I prefer to separate those pieces so you know what you're doing before you start clicking through an application.
And if you're still deciding whether eXp makes sense for you, that's okay. Joining shouldn't be the first step in your research. Understanding the model should be.
How to Join eXp Realty in 6 Steps
The details can vary depending on your state, current brokerage, and licensing situation, but this gives you a practical picture of what to expect.
Understand the eXp Model
Before applying, understand the brokerage model, commission structure, fees, cap, technology, training, stock opportunities, and revenue share rather than joining based on one feature alone.
Choose Your eXp Sponsor
You'll be asked to identify a sponsor during the joining process. This is worth deciding ahead of time instead of treating it like an unimportant field on an application.
Complete the eXp Application
You'll enter your personal, real estate license, brokerage, and sponsor information through eXp's joining process.
Complete Brokerage and License Requirements
Your application and license information need to be reviewed and processed. The exact transfer requirements can differ depending on where you're licensed and whether you're already affiliated with another brokerage.
Complete Your eXp Onboarding
Once the required approvals are completed, you'll move into onboarding, account setup, systems, tools, and the practical pieces of operating your business at eXp.
Start Building Your Business at eXp
Getting your account activated isn't the finish line. You'll want to learn the systems, get your business organized, connect with training and support, and develop a plan for your first several weeks.
Before You Apply, Make Sure eXp Is Actually the Right Fit
I don't think an agent should join a brokerage simply because another agent tells them to. Your brokerage affects your finances, support system, technology, training, business structure, and potentially your long-term growth.
That's why I'd look at the complete picture before making the move.
Newer agents should also understand how the eXp Realty Mentor Program works, since the experience of joining as a newer agent can be different from transferring an established business.
How to Select Anthony Simmons as Your eXp Realty Sponsor
If you've already decided you'd like me to be your sponsor, use the following information when the eXp application asks you to identify your sponsor.
- Sponsor eXp Email: anthony.simmons@exprealty.com
- Sponsor First Name: Anthony
- Sponsor Last Name: Simmons
- Country: US
- Phone: (507) 363-1089
Enter the information above when searching for your sponsor during the application process.
If you have questions before applying, I'd rather talk through them with you first than have you feel rushed into making a brokerage decision.
What If You're Moving a Team or Small Brokerage to eXp?
This is a different conversation from a single agent changing brokerages. Team leaders and independent brokerage owners have more moving pieces to consider, including their agents, branding, existing business, operations, listings, and transition timing.
I wrote a separate guide specifically about this because I don't think the subject should be squeezed into a few paragraphs on a general joining page.

What Should You Look for in an eXp Realty Sponsor?
I wouldn't choose a sponsor simply because you found someone's name online. Ask what happens after you join.
What resources do they provide? Will they answer questions? Do they understand the areas of the business you're trying to build? Do they have systems or resources that can help you get established?
The brokerage provides substantial infrastructure, but your sponsor relationship can still matter. Understanding sponsorship and the resources available to you can help you make a more informed decision before completing the process.
